Digital chain, range, battery: the drivetrain.
Here at mocci, we’ve succeeded in digitizing the entire drivetrain of a pedelec—every mechanical connection, such as chains and belts, has been removed from our e-bike. This opens up entirely new possibilities for urban mobility. In our e-bike, human power is converted into electrical energy; this principle is known as a series hybrid. When you pedal a mocci Digital Pedelec, you’re not driving a chain, but rather a small generator that produces energy for the electric motor in the rear wheel. A battery provides extra power.
The range is comparable to that of other e-bikes. With our battery size, we can travel about 80 km.
Our drive system continues to operate to a limited extent even when the battery is dead.
The battery does not charge automatically while riding, since the energy generated by pedaling flows directly into the motor. The battery is charged only when the rider generates more energy than the motor needs to propel the bike. Our motor is also integrated into the bike as an electric brake—energy can be recovered when braking.
There is no gear shifter like the ones found on regular bicycles—and we don't need one, because the gear shifting is simulated electronically by the software. Depending on road conditions—whether going uphill or downhill—the software adjusts accordingly, ensuring the user always rides within their comfort zone.
You don't need a driver's license or insurance to ride it—just like a regular bike: just hop on and go.

The digital service platform behind the Smart Pedal Vehicle.
The Digital Service Platform (DSP) uses telemetry data to provide you with real-time key metrics for your mocci e-bike—tailored specifically to your use case. This allows you to keep track of operation and performance at all times. This allows you to maximize the transparency and availability of your fleet—while ensuring optimal operational and business efficiency.
A smart e-bike puts the user and their needs first. To this end, every mocci is equipped with a built-in IoT device that continuously collects and analyzes relevant data from the e-bike. Among other things, this data is used to manage preventive maintenance cycles, ensuring that the vehicle operates reliably at all times. At the same time, it forms the foundation for our Digital Service Platform, through which we provide our customers with data-driven value-added services related to the operation of their fleet.
The Platform Concept and the Next Generation of Vehicles.
Our core competency is the development and manufacture of an innovative, zero-emission mobility solution for urban environments. The idea of a modular mobility concept has shaped the development process—the evolution of future generations was taken into account from the very beginning. We are already working on future generations based on this platform concept.
A key component of our platform strategy right now is our wheels and, of course, the digital chain—that is, the series-hybrid powertrain. Since there is no need for a mechanical connection between the powertrain components, we have complete freedom in terms of installation, which allows for great flexibility in vehicle architecture.
Reusing components based on a platform approach saves on development and production costs as well as time. In addition, we are familiar with the final assembly process using the existing components and do not need to set it up from scratch.
The Name, the History, the Company.
The name "mocci" is composed of the two Chinese syllables "MO" and "CHI" and, loosely translated, means "sublime movement"—or, as we call it: MAGIC RIDE.
The company was founded in 2018. Over the years, we developed a holistic research approach that led to product development and implementation. Today, we are pleased to have brought mocci to market, and we are continuously expanding our platform concept.
